How is this website different than a typical consultation?
Family Law at Home allows you to pursue and understand your options, regardless of what life is currently bearing. As we have recently learned, life can change so dramatically and so instantly. Our website allows you to receive a thorough, professional consultation remotely. Typically, a consultation occurs in-office and with a larger fee. With our service this can be accomplished from wherever best suits your situation and at a fraction of the price.
Why do I need to provide my information?
We are required to ask for your information so we can run a thorough conflict check. If the opposing party in your case has received legal advice from any of our attorneys, we cannot ethically represent you.
I was happy with my remote consultation. Can I have an in-person consultation as well before I retain?
You may choose to have an in-person consultation, in addition to your online consultation. Our goal is to earn your trust during your difficult transition, and we are happy to have a second in-office consultation. However, there will be an additional fee.
Is there anything I need to have prepared for a consultation?
There is no need to have documents prepared for your in-home consultation. It is important however that you are prepared to speak honestly, realistically, and assertively about your situation and desired outcomes. However, advice that is given is as good as the facts provided. If you have additional documents or information, that will guide the advice given.
What if I’m unsure about filing for divorce?
Petitioning for divorce is a major life choice. It is important to approach the matter with certainty and clarity. If you are considering it, it is important to look at all factors and evaluate the situation as a whole. It is our pleasure to help you achieve that in any way we can. The point of discussing this is to determine if this is a step you want to take; you should not feel pressure to make a decision that you are not comfortable with.
If I am from outside of California can I still use your service?
Our lawyers can only provide legal advice based upon California law, as they are only licensed to practice law in the State of California. Our lawyers cannot provide legal advice for any other states. If you are outside of California, you can still use our service. However, in order to file for a divorce in California, you had to have been a resident of the State of California for 6 months immediately preceding the filing of the Petition. The Petition will be filed in the county where you or your spouse lived 3 months immediately preceding the filing of the Petition.
